As part of its resolve to assist small-holders poultry farmers in Akwa Ibom State, Eni Agro Allied Farm Limited a subsidiary of Eni Group Limited aims to empower 100 poultry farmers through its ongoing out-grower scheme.

The General Manager of the Firm, Mr. Nsikak Udom, disclosed this during an interaction with Newsmen in Uyo yesterday. He explained that the project was part of the company’s ‘Out Grower Scheme’ which is targeted at small-holder Poultry farmers with a capacity of 500-1500 broiler farm in any part of the State.

Mr. Udom further explained that the scheme will enable the farmers to pay for the cost of feeding the birds at the end of the production period upon harvest noting that feeds constitutes about 70%-80% of cost of production of poultry products, making the offer a good one as farmers are less bothered with the running capital. “On registration and approval of farm facility for the scheme, the beneficiaries are scheduled to book Day Old Chics (DOC) and subsequently Eni Agro Allied provides the feed required throughout the rearing period. As the offtaker, we pay the beneficiaries less the total cost of feed provided.” He added that the beneficiaries will also be exposed to lessons on best practices in sustainable poultry farm management.

According to the General Manager of the Company, “with the scheme in place, farmers in the State will have more confidence engaging in business since they have been assured of a ready market through the off-taker agreement with the company.” He said that intended participants must own a farm with the required capacity of birds and should be able to provide a viable guarantor.
